About Us

Rentoodle is a UK peer-to-peer rental marketplace where people hire everyday items, from cameras and power tools to designer dresses and baby equipment, directly from other private individuals.

What is Rentoodle?

We reimagine the way the world consumes products. Rentoodle was born from a passion to share and re-use everything.

Starting with books (with over 40,000 books now listed and counting), Rentoodle has grown to become the UK's top destination for renting nearly everything. Rent beautiful dresses; share a drill with a neighbour, or even hire an IMAX camera for a professional film shoot.

What is Lending?

If you own something that you don't use all the time, you can earn money by sharing it with ID-verified hirers in the UK.

To start lending it's simple: list your items, set your prices and you get paid when the rental starts *. Start lending now!

* Please note that payouts are subject to the minimum earnings threshold of £50 being met and you abide by our terms and conditions - that's equivalent to an item being rented out for 5 days at £10 per day.

We've got you covered

secure

We know it’s a priority to trust the people borrowing your stuff. Rentoodle marketplace mandates biometric identity checks on all new hirers, to help you feel more secure about who you're handing your belongings to.

If something does come up, though, we've got you covered. With our Lender Guarantee covering damage, theft or loss, you’re supported as a lender throughout the rental period. Rentoodle have partnered with Hiscox to provide up to £30,000 cover should a borrower not refund the lender, in the rare event that an item is lost, damaged or stolen. To start lending:

  • If delivering, ship the item by tracked delivery to arrive on the rental start date
  • If collection only, message the hirer to organise a place and time to collect

  • Receive your item
  • If receiving by post, ship the item(s) by tracked delivery to arrive back with the lender by the rental end date

How does identity verification work?

Our aim is for Lenders and Borrowers on Rentoodle to be able to trust each other. Although no identification process is foolproof and we cannot guarantee someone’s identity, we invest in steps to help everyone to feel confident that borrowers and Lenders on Rentoodle are genuine.

This is why we have procedures in place to attempt to verify the identity of our users. We require listing Lenders and and Hirers to be verified.

When you book an item or when you become a Lender, we may need to verify your personal information, such as your legal name, address, phone number and other contact details including matching a selfie with your government-issued identification document.

Someone being “Identity verified” or having an identity verification badge only means that they have provided information which has been validated. This process has safeguards but is not a guarantee that someone is who they claim to be.

Hiring

Verifying your identity is easy.

  • 1. Upload your Driving License or Passport
  • 2. You'll then be asked to take a selfie. The selfie and identity document will then be processed using biometric and computer vision technology.
  • 3. Your identity documents will be stored with our identity verification provider, Stripe. Stripe is one of the world's largest companies, processing nearly $1 trillion of payments annually.
  • 4. Verification is usually instant.

Lending

Lenders will need to provide identity information before payment can be made, in accordance with UK banking "Know Your Customer" regulations.

What is the cancellation policy?

To facilitate an exceptional marketplace, we have a strict cancellation policy for both hirers and lenders.

Hiring

Hirers may cancel their Rentoodle order up to 48 hours before the start date for a full refund. Any time after 48 hours before the rental start date, hirers will not be reimbursed. If a rental is cancelled during a rental period the hired items must be returned to the lender immediately.

Lending

Lenders may cancel an order and must reimburse the hirer in full. An additional surcharge of 25% of the order amount is payable to Rentoodle. Going away? You can de-activate a listing in your account area.

Are there any Fees?

Borrower fees - 0%

Rentoodle does not charge a fee per order and borrowers pay the rental price advertised by the lender. For new borrowers, there is a one-time charge of £2 for ID verification.

Lender fees - 25%

Lenders keep 75% of all earnings.

How do lenders get paid?

Payment threshold

You'll be paid out when your outstanding earnings reach the payment threshold of £50, as long as there are no holds on your account and you're in compliance with our terms and conditions.

Cancellation threshold

If you decide to cancel your Rentoodle account and your account balance is greater than the cancellation threshold of £10, you'll receive your final payment within approximately 90 days of the end of the month, provided that you've completed the necessary steps to be paid.

The Rentoodle Lender Guarantee

In the unlikely event of damage or non-return of an item, UK lenders are covered up to £30,000 per item provided the lender fully complies with the Rentoodle Lender Guarantee.

Are hirers covered?

No, we provide a guarantee for lenders items only.

Hirers liability

Hirers are fully responsible a rented item while it is in their possession. Hirers are welcome to take out their own policy.

As per the Terms and Conditions Hirers are fully liable for theft, confiscation, loss or damage caused to the item and are fully liable for the cost of rectifying the issue.
