With a 600mm focal length and f/4 maximum aperture, this professional super-telephoto lens rental delivers stunning results. Built around the RF lens mount, it delivers ultra-fast focusing, up to 5.5 stops of image stabilisation and sensational image quality. We own both the EF 600 mm f/4 L IS USM and the RF 600 mm f/4 L IS USM lenses. We haven't noticed a significant difference in image quality between the two; both lenses perform exceptionally well. We opted for the RF primarily due to its reduced weight and shorter focusing distance, aspects that have met our expectations. However, there are a few areas for improvement. The image stabilisation doesn't operate in the dark as effectively as it does with the RF 100–500 L, likely due to the older design constraints. We would appreciate a built-in switchable converter that could be easily activated with a single click. Using this lens with the R5 and its latest firmware, we've encountered some minor issues. Occasionally, we've heard internal clanking when the power is off, and sometimes it activates in manual focus mode when paired with a TC, necessitating a camera restart. We remain hopeful that these software-related challenges will be addressed in future updates. Despite these concerns, we're overall pleased with - and recommend - the RF 600/4 L rental for its lightweight design, balance, and impressive sharpness, even surpassing our earlier version.
